  • Base salary will be in the range $80,448 - $107,104 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A)

  • Based at the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Services (STARS) building, near our Herston campus

About This Opportunity

A wonderful opportunity for Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work within an NHMRC-funded program of musculoskeletal and injury research, under the direction of Professor Michele Sterling. Our research program, NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Better Health Outcomes for Compensable Injury, focuses on understanding the development of chronic pain after musculoskeletal road traffic injury and developing and testing treatments to prevent chronic pain.

Over the next 3 years, this role will contribute to world-leading, internationally collaborative, research priority setting activities, randomised controlled trials (RCTs), clinical trial designs and cohort studies to improve health outcomes after road traffic injury,

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilise best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in the areas of musculoskeletal pain/injury or rehabilitation and the understanding of clinical experience in musculoskeletal pain healthcare and evidence-based practice, for example from disciplines such as physiotherapy, exercise physiology, psychology or rehabilitation.

  • An emerging profile in research in the area of applied clinical research and relevant experience in applied clinical research, such as clinical trials, systematic reviews, mixed research methods, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analyses, and translation of research into practice.

  • Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities and a willingness and ability to travel to collaborating research sites, within Queensland, interstate and possibly international travel.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with colleagues at all levels.

  • An ability to work independently, and collaboratively whilst prioritising own workload, working responsibly to meet deadlines.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, education check, and mandatory immunisations.
